The North Dumfries Fire Department traces its roots back to the late 1890's when a re-organization of a previous unofficial fire brigade protected the small village of Ayr. When the village was incorporated into the Township, the present day Township of North Dumfries Fire Department was officially adopted.
The department consists of 26 dedicated volunteers, both male and female, under the leadership of Fire Chief Paul Van Scheyndel, Deputy Fire Chief Robert Shantz and Senior Captain David Chapman. .
The fire fighters train on Sunday mornings, bi-weekly, between the hours of 8:00am and 12:00pm. Specialized training is done during the week.
